             abstract = "Water resources management in Brazil is based on watherseds, in 
                         which the analysis of land use and land cover plays a key role on 
                         the whole of their understanding. Therefore, this study aimed to 
                         evaluate the land cover and use in the wathershed of the river 
                         Para{\'{\i}}ba do Sul from 2001 up to 2012, from the use of 
                         remote sensing technics. Images from the product MODIS Land Cover 
                         Type 1 (2001-2012) were used in this context. They were cut 
                         through masks in the software ENVI, and the calculation of the 
                         area and the editing were held by DINAMICA-EGO. The results showed 
                         that by the year 2001 more than 50% of the area covered by this 
                         study was savannas, and that it has a tendency of continuing to 
                         grow. They also showed that the forest has recuperated a large 
                         amount of its area up to 2012, after suffering some loss. The 
                         presente study brings importante results to water resources 
                         management such as the tendency of increasing of the savannas and 
                         woody savannas, decreasing of the Closed shrublands and the open 
                         shrublands, and restore of forest area around the wathershed of 
                         the river Para{\'{\i}}ba do Sul.",
